This one is maybe more of a 'record' than a 'song'. And as a record, it's a record of not just the sounds of the song, but also of a feeling . . . and a record of the times. When I was a kid in the 1950s, my parents would take me and my brothers on summer holiday road trips in the western USA. We were always amused by the "Burma Shave" road signs that frequently showed up before entering towns. In the chorus of this song, that ssssssppppriiinnng sound is one I got using a jellyfish pick on my (blonde) Rickenbacker 12-string. I also got to use one of my favorite pet sounds from my M1 on this song.
