This is what I'm thinking . . .
January 14, 2017
Just after Christmas, I dropped by Blackbyrd Myoozik in my home town of Edmonton to browse through the records and wish the staff Happy New Year. I saw Arthur, the owner, while I was paying for some music at the till. He motioned to me about something going on behind me. I didn't know what I was supposed to be seeing – there was just a display of 12" vinyl and a guy with an armful of records. "That guy is buying your album," Arthur whispered. First thing that popped out of my mouth is, "Geez. I must be happening." Arthur then said, "2017 is going to be your year." In my heart, I kinda believe him . . . but I don't want to jinx it.
So far, though, it's turning out pretty good. Our 10th Wilfred N & the Grown Men album – Passing Through Time – is coming out on January 20th. I took some advance copies of it to program hosts at CJSR (super UofA campus station!) and CKUA (one of the best in the world!). I sent a couple mp3s from the album to Katherine Duncan at CBC's Key of A program featuring Alberta music. The response has been more than I ever expected. Key of A has already prominently featured two songs from the new album; CJSR and CKUA both got on our album right away and within just a couple weeks, CJSR had us on their chart at #3, and CKUA placed us at #4 on their first Top 30 Chart of the new year. What a great way to start the year! Today somebody bought (the first!) download of one the album's songs – Say Something – off this website .
Honestly, I think the album is quite cool and pretty 'different'. I just want people to like it, and so far it's looking good. Thank you all.
